Great… Beginning July 29th you are prohibited from using hand-held cell phones while driving in Troy, MI. Troy city council approved a “distracted driving Ordinance” that will go into effect on July 29.

So what is “distracted driving” behavior? According to city of Troy you will be fined if you:
1. Send and read any text messages on your mobile device (similar to state texting ban)
2. You cannot use hand-held cell phones while driving. However hands free device is allowed.
3. The third ban prohibits any other activity that distracts the driver or diverts the driver to use due care and caution while operating a motor vehicle. Examples include eating, grooming, reading, writing, or any other activity that prevents the driver from controlling the motor vehicle with at least one hand on the wheel.
